The recordings of the first day of the 22nd INTOSAI WGEA Assembly have now been published on the Secretariat’s Youtube-channel. The sessions can be found as individual videos to enable watching only a specific session.
The opening session kicked off the Assembly with broad introductions to the topics of the Arctic environmental change and indigenous knowledge. Speeches were delivered by the Chair of the INTOSAI WGEA Sami Yläoutinen, Research Director of the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) Eeva Primmer, 1st Vice President of the Sámi Parliament (until the end of January) Anni Koivisto, Ambassador for Arctic Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland Petteri Vuorimäki, as well as Hannu Takkula from the European Court of Auditors. The discussion was moderated by the Secretary General of INTOSAI WGEA, Vivi Niemenmaa.
The second session, "Arctic Environmental Change", featured three keynote speakers whose work centres around climate change and environmental change in the Arctic region. The first speaker was Petteri Taalas, former Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), currently working as the Director of the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The second keynote speaker was Leena Ylä-Mononen, the Executive Director of the European Environment Agency. The final keynote was delivered by Sanna Kopra, Senior Researcher at the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland. The session continued with a panel discussion joined by Jerry DeMarco from SAI Canada, and Michael Kuur Sørensen from SAI Denmark. The discussion was moderated by Research Director of the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke), Eeva Primmer.
The third session focused on the topic of indigenous knowledge. It featured keynote speeches from Florian Stammler from the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland, and Olivier Rukundo from the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The session also included an interview between the Chair of the Sámi Climate Council and Sámi Researcher, Klemetti Näkkäläjärvi & fellow Sámi Climate Council member, reindeer herder, Antti-Oula Juuso in North Sámi language. The session finished with a panel discussion between Stammler, Näkkäläjärvi and Kritsanu Thipnoy from SAI Thailand. The moderator of the discussion was Michael Malabeja from SAI Tanzania.
The final session of the day featured keynote speeches from SAI New Zealand and its Auditor General, John Ryan, as well as First Nations Performance Audit Team Leader, Carla Ware, from the Audit Office of New South Wales, Australia. The session continues with audit case presentations from SAI USA, SAI Brazil, SAI Indonesia and SAI Egypt. The discussion was moderated by Assistant Auditor General Claudia Migotto from the Audit Office of New South Wales, Australia.
